- This is the only Spanish sentence
that I can actively speak: „What is your telephone number?“
Sadly, in my everyday life I only very seldom face a situation that
allows me to use that sentence. But now I got a bit of a private
lesson from a band called Metanoia. These four guys from Chile have
delivered a new album, titled „Retroceder Nunca“ that is sung
from the first to the last second in racy Spanish. Another language,
that I can speak better than Spanish, is Ancient Greek because I use
it more often in my everyday life. And this way I at least catch on
to the band name of the Chileans: Metanoia means „Turn Around
mentally“ or „About-Face“.
Although I had never heard about this
band before, listening to this album gives rise to several déjà
vus. For, Metanoia's riffs are – let's express it cautiously –
strongly inspired by Californian Surf Punk classics. This way I can
rediscover many of my favorite songs on this album: Here a bit of
NoFX, there a bit of Bad Religion or Craig's Brother. In sum, this
makes a hit parade of melodious Hardcore, the four guys from the band
leaving their very own mark on the songs by means of their language
and their subjects. The U-turn that they are named after is happening
in the songs because the well-known riffs are supporting the message of
Christian hope here that Metanoia sing about.
At the end I do not understand all that
much of it. Most of these lyrics are just way too fast for me. But a
few bits that I pick up do make sense to me, for example:
If I got it right this could mean as
much as: „More precious to my heart than any other emotion is the
dimension that I experience in your love.“ Please correct me if I
am wrong. This seems to be a positive kind of message. It makes me
feel good. And one last thing needs to be said very clearly: So far
this year in terms of music and melodies no other release has swept
me off my feet as much as this one.
Sehr gut! Guten tag
